Pin's Island
(at dawn and dusk)
I’m home from Australia, at least in body, and since I’ve been back I don’t know where my days have gone. Well, sort of. I know they haven’t disappeared. I know they just happen and my head is in the clouds and I’m jet lagged and touring is disorienting and life stops for no one. But lately the days just end sooner than I’d like them too. Winter, I guess! Just when I start to notice the glowing sunset cotton candy orange portal forming over the ocean, there it goes slipping away. Patience is definitely the name of this season….I’ll give you the full Australia recap soon enough but for now, a new song.
A few years ago Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, who I have deep admiration and respect for, asked me to contribute a song to a compilation she puts out on her imprint Touch The Plants. I had two pieces of instrumental music that hadn’t been released yet that fit the prompt which was:
“Love Letters” is the 5th installment of Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith’s unique and captivating compilation series. For this edition, Smith invites Snacks?, the first guest curator in the series, to select a theme that resonates with the artists involved. The theme: Love Letters. Each artist was given the prompt to create a song inspired by the notion of love letters—whether that be the act of writing, receiving, or reflecting on the power of words between people.
The result is a mesmerizing collection of intimate, emotionally charged tracks that explore the nuances of love, longing, connection, and vulnerability. These songs transcend traditional boundaries, blending genres and sounds, while offering personal and raw expressions of affection.
and the song and the compilation are finally out in the world, for you to hear. My little love letter, lost in the mail, now found again. It features saxophone samples by Joseph Shabason, who I also deeply respect and admire. Pin’s Island (At Dawn and Dusk)
No more shows this year. Entering hibernation mode-but for now I hope you enjoy Pin’s Island.
